Governing body for the
internet refers to governance that develops and applies rules, procedures and
programs to the internet. A governing body must be equal to all users,
businessmen and even to the government. It must have privacy
protection, human rights online and cyber security. Yes, we are in need of efficient governance for
the internet to develop and secure the internet and the users nowadays or in
the future. As a user, we are aiming to have a free internet but it doesn’t
look fair to all businessmen, however we are still in seek of having fair and free
access to the internet disregarding the distance and cost. We should have a voice in creating the policies
the internet community will be made to follow and in determining questions that
have increasingly large political and financial implications. As Geoffrey Bowker said, ‘If the governance of the
internet is a key sociotechnical issue of our times, then we need to be able to
explore both the choices we have made and the roads not taken. If we are to
deal with this fundamental political issue of our time, then we need an
integrated understanding of what is at stake socially and how changes can be
made technologically’
(Bowker 2013)
